Cercedilla, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, gears up to celebrate its Patron Saint Fiestas

As the summertime fades and the colors of autumn begin to bloom, the charming town of Cercedilla, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, gears up to celebrate its Patron Saint Fiestas with the return of the exhilarating traditional bullfighting events. From the 7th to the 11th of September, this year, the time-honored spectacle will once again draw locals and visitors alike to the town’s historic bullring.

This five-day fête promises to be pulsating with adrenaline, tradition, and passion. The schedule kicks off on the 7th of September with a release of the bulls at 1 pm, followed by a bullfight at 6 pm, featuring stock from the Buenavista ranch. Matadors Ángel Sánchez, Javier Montalvo, and Jesús Martínez, both of the latter taking their alternativa (a ceremony in which a novillero is confirmed as a full matador), are lined up to show off their capote skills.

The 8th of September, the official day of Natividad, the town’s patron saint, will see another release of the bulls at 8 pm for the traditional bull of the nativity event.

On the 9th of September, the festivities continue with a morning children’s bull run, featuring smaller, less dangerous animals. Later in the day, another bull release and a becerrada (a novice bullfight involving young bulls) organized by Cercedilla’s youth society.

The following day, on the 10th, the Plaza de Toros de Cercedilla will host an unboxing of bulls to be fought in the afternoon, release of the bulls again at 1 pm, and another becerrada in the evening, this time organized by the local women’s society.

The grand event concludes on the 11th of September with a further release of bulls at 1 pm and a becerrada in the afternoon by the Cercedilla’s married society.
